For this newbie mum, time out from her regular job to raise her twin toddlers…
5 Things Every New Mum Should Know
Becoming a mum is the greatest thing that can happen to you and it is something that changes you entirely. It is the most challenging and difficult task you will ever have, but also the most rewarding.
There is nothing like that love you feel for your child and that pride when you see that your kid is simply wonderful. However, there are several things you should be aware of and it can be of great help to know them in advance.
Don’t expect things to always go according to your plan
We like to make plans and create different scenes and happenings in our mind, because controlling situations feels so good, so we also tend to expect that the parenthood can be planned as well, at least to some extent. But it can’t! Things never go according to the plan, no matter how much you elaborate it. Keep in mind that there will be times when you will be surprised, confused or shocked and you won’t always know what to do right away. Don’t panic when this happens, because many have been through the same before you and they did just fine, and so will you!
You need some time for yourself only
Many women think that having a child also means sacrificing the time you want to dedicate to yourself only completely. However, this is far from the truth, and it is not healthy to never find some time for yourself anymore. If you want your child to be happy and independent, you need to be all that yourself to show them and teach them by giving them an example.
It is true that things can seem quite chaotic when you become a mummy, and it is easy to forget about yourself, but in order to make the right decisions and always feel calm and confident when new problems arise, you need to sometimes just find time for yourself to do what makes you feel good. For example, you can check out that online fashion store you’ve heard about and maybe find a beautiful dress for yourself, because nothing makes us women happy like new clothes and cute pieces! You can also see your close friends for a cup of coffee, or maybe make those cookies you really love to eat them while binge-watching your favorite show.
Finding support is really significant
If your family members and friends offer to help with the baby, don’t hesitate to take advantage of it. Of course, don’t rely on them all the time, since you and your partner should try to be independent as much as possible, but it is totally alright to sometimes take all the help you can get. You may count on the relatives and friends who are already veterans and have older kids, so they can give you useful advice whenever you need it. Also, if the grandparents want to babysit every once in a while, you and your partner can appreciate it and maybe have a romantic dinner, dedicate some time to each other while your parents are taking care of the little one.
It will take time for you to get used to your baby
Perhaps you had love for your baby the minute you found out they were in your belly, but many women reported that it took them a while to get used to their little one and the fact that now they are mummies. It is ok if you need some time to get used to the whole idea of having a child. You have the right to process it for as long as you need. It will eventually hit you, don’t worry!
Your instincts will tell you what you do
Some women are scared of motherhood because they think they won’t know what to do most of the time, but many mothers say that relying on their instincts always brought them where they needed to be. Becoming a mum also means developing special instincts that always tell you exactly what to do, but it is ok even if you make mistakes, and the important thing is to learn from them.
To all of those women who are new mums or they are about to become one, don’t panic – you’ve got this! Everything is going to be just fine and these are some things that are useful to know in advance. Relax, find some time for yourself sometimes, appreciate all the support, take time to fall in love with your baby and rely on your instincts and with all this you have everything you need to know!
