A Northern Beaches Christmas

Christmas on the Northern Beaches is a magical time, not only is the weather beautiful, but the days are longer and you can celebrate long into the evening. A specialty on our beaches are the Christmas Light streets, once dusk falls the streets come alive with gorgeous twinkling lights and moving Santas, the children just love watching all the lights at night. We have highlighted here for you some of the amazing streets you should visit in the Christmas period, we have also listed local events and where to have your Santa photo taken. And don’t forget to check out the Christmas buses which are always a family favourite.

We hope you have a safe and enjoyable Christmas this year!

And don’t forget to keep an eye on our Calendar of Events as we’ll add new Festive activites and events whenever we find them.

Christmas Light Displays on the Northern Beaches

One of the highlights for me at Christmas is the amazing Christmas lights displays by home owners to get into the spirit of Christmas. Go for an after dinner wander through the streets after dark and enjoy the dramatic displays that await you. Many homeowners and whole streets take this opportunity to collect money for charity so take along your loose coins and drop them in their buckets…it’s for a great cause and can brighten up someone’s Christmas! Send me an email ([email protected]) if you have a Christmas lights location to add for the Northern Beaches.

Cambage Court Lights

Michael Grey invites you to his 2016 Christmas lights display synchronised to music at 10 Cambage Court Davidson.

You are invited to walk up the garden path and view the winter wonderland train village in the lounge window and then walk around to the backyard to view the backyard display and two further window displays.

Borgnis Street, Davidson

Visiting the Borgnis street Christmas lights in Davidson is a much loved tradition on the northern beaches. Each year the residents of Borgnis street deck out their homes in a multitude of Christmas lights in spectacular displays all for the purpose of bringing some of the Christmas cheer and fun to the many visitors to the street.
From the first Sunday night in December (4th), the lights switch on between 7pm – 11.00pm (and midnight Xmas eve) with thousands of visitors staring in awe and wonder at the wonderful displays.

Starting from the display at the Davidson local rural fire brigade thru to the top of the street at number 2, you will be amazed at the many displays you will encounter on your walk/drive.
The street also has a serious side to their displays; they raise money for BEAR COTTAGE, a children hospice in Manly where seriously ill children and their families can go for some respite from their treatments. One of the best days/nights for the street is when the kids from the hospice come up to visit the displays and are grateful for the small wonder the lights evoke when they view them. For many years, the street has collected donations and last year was awarded the Warringah Council Australia day community award for their efforts in this regard.
If during your visit you do like what you see, and would like to leave a small donation for Bear Cottage, there are a number of buckets placed at some of the displays and the lovely Rotary personal will also be manning various collection points on the street.

The residents are looking forward to seeing you on the street soon.

concertManly Warringah Choir

There is so much happening at this time of the year – but don’t miss this extraordinary celebration of the joyousness of Christmas. It will certainly put you in the mood for a wonderful month ahead.

The orchestra will be performing Tchaikovsky’s ever popular ” Nutcracker Suite” , followed by a variety of carols.

The choral work, Karl Jenkins’ “Stella Natalis” was composed in 2009 and is astonishingly varied and vibrant. Mood changes include transitions from, traditional lullaby to a quirky exploration of the Trinity, to an evocatively sensory recreation of winter. “From our Earth”, a meditation on the stars, the mysteries and vastness of the universe, is particularly moving. ‘Along with Latin and English, Zulu texts and rhythms draw attention to the global significance of Christmas spirit: celebrating the desired universality of “Goodwill to all Mankind”, Peace and New Beginnings.

Once again our intrepid conductor Dr Carlos Alvarado will take us all on this extraordinary journey with passionate enthusiasm.

The superb soprano Anita Kyle is back from Europe and will join us again. We are also excited to have the widely experienced and accomplished Anthony Aarons as trumpet soloist. Virtuosic explosions of joy from the trumpet are scattered throughout the work and further enhance the exhilaration to be experienced at this Christmas concert.

Come and join us for this unique blend of the traditional and the contemporary; of the meditative and the exuberant in this joyous celebration of Christmas.
