Review: The Park House, Mona Vale

Amy and her family got the opportunity to try the Food Merchants Restaurant located at the Park House in Mona Vale and here is their raving review…

Upon entering the establishment, we were immediately drawn to the inviting open fireplace and modern decor which encompassed a modern industrial, Mexican vibe. We were shown to our table located right in front of the open fireplace with low set leather chairs and couches which was not only comfortable, but cozy especially on a cold rainy night.

Our waiter Matt took great care of us by giving us tips on which wines were a good choice, and also making sure our 2 children were occupied and happy to allow us to talk and relax. The kids had colouring in and even a game of Jenga to keep them occupied whilst my husband and I enjoyed a drink together and reviewing the extensive and appealing menu. We enjoyed a beautiful bottle of Cabernet from the Coonawarra which was ideal to have by the fire.

The kids menu was also appealing with our children immediately deciding on the Spaghetti Bolognaise and the Burger and fries as their options. These dishes were presented beautifully and were accompanied with a side salad which as a parent I really liked. They were generous serves and the kids really enjoyed them. Another bonus is that kids eat free Sunday to Wednesday!

My husband and I decided on 6 Oysters with a delicious aguachile sauce (which was a delicious spicy flavour hit), along with the snapper ceviche which was interestingly served on a large tostada (crispy corn chip) which gave it a great texture and was served with grapefruit, avocado, lime, jalapeno, tobiko and tamari. The kids had the rosemary and garlic focaccia and a lemonade which they really liked. We really enjoyed the entrees it gave us a taste of what was to come with our next course.

The waitress kindly told us about the nights special which I couldn’t resist ordering. It was very generous serve of pork with a perfectly cooked crackle and a tomato based salsa/sauce. Not only was this filling, it was a delightful meal to have on a cold night.

My husband ordered the rib eye on the bone medium rare and it was cooked to perfection and a large serve. He enjoyed a side of sautéd broccolini, parmesan and sauce vierge to accompany his meal.

Even though we were extremely satisfied thus far we were tempted to try a selection from the sweet menu following our mains. The kids ordered a homemade vanilla bean ice-cream in a waffle cone which was huge and delightful.

Whilst my husband and I couldn’t go past the lime tart brulee, served with pistachio praline and sour cream Chantilly. It was the most unusual yet delicious dessert with my husband confessing ?this is one of the best desserts I have ever had, I couldn’t agree more.

Overall as a family we felt that The Parkhouse offered a really special family night out that exceeded our expectations. The Food Merchants Restaurant had an amazing ambience with dimmed lighting, candles galore, industrial modern d?cor and a cozy inviting atmosphere. If you are after a more casual dining experience they also offer a family friendly menu at the Food Merchants bar which also looked like a great place to dine. This area offers pizzas, burgers as well as a great selection of mains and salads.

Living on the Northern Beaches I would have to say that The Park House is a place you have to come and experience for yourself! Whether you are after a girls or guys night out, a date night or a family meal. The Park House offers it all in modern surroundings with great service and you will not be disappointed. Make sure you get down there and enjoy this wonderful place that is right at our doorstep!!
