What Food Goes With Pinot Noir? What Doesn’t Really?
As we head into the cooler months and crave comfort food more and more, here are some recommendations for one of the most versatile reds around!
Pinot Noir is a perfectly suited wine to pair with a broad range of food because of its bright acidity, complexity, and rich fruit character.
The best food pairings for Pinot Noir are those that enhance these qualities which make Pinot Noir an ideal marriage partner to lighter red meats like duck and lamb, or white meats like turkey, pork and chicken.
Fuller-flavoured fish like salmon also sing happily together, and earthy vegetables such as mushrooms and herbs such as thyme match the wine’s savoury flavours, particularly when added to risotto and pastas.
There isn’t much that doesn’t work with Pinot Noir but those foods that are dense and overly rich in flavour are best avoided as they can dominate the delicate sensibilities of the wine.
TOP SERVING TIP: Always use a large rounded bell-shaped glass in order to gather the delicate aromatics of your Pinot Noir. A stem isn’t always required, however it’s perfect if you prefer to swirl your wine.
